On June 24, 2021, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco screened Sambal Belacan in San Francisco (1997) and The Worlds of Bernice Bing (2013) by Madeleine Lim, followed by a conversation with Abby Chen, the museum’s Head of Contemporary Art.

Watch the recording of the conversation, in which Madeleine situates her work as an immigrant queer Singaporean filmmaker within its artistic and activist contexts, from the subversiveness of queer feminist filmmakers to political repression, from the importance of the Chinese diaspora to art making as key to democracy.
