Queer Black August at SF Black Pride
Six films celebrating queer & trans Black stories.
A conference becomes a crossroads. A drumbeat carries survival. The universe retold through Black trans creation. A girl chasing perfection through magic. Love pulled apart, examined, undone. Six films that move through grief, lineage, and becoming where resistance is intimate, and transformation refuses to wait.
For the 2nd year, QWOCFF is back for San Francisco Black Pride! These are films that move through grief, lineage, and becoming, which is central to Black liberation, and joy. We can’t wait for the Black Pride community conversations, panels, wellness sessions, and are nestled around this screening as part of their week of events.
The Films
the powerful
“The powerful one” is a person with diverse sexual orientation and gender identity. She found in bullerengue the way not only to survive and resist the armed conflict that has plagued her entire life, but also to heal those wounds that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
A New Creation Story
Blending animation, poetry, music, stories rooted in various cultures and live elements, A New Creation Story celebrates Black Trans community and retells the making of the Universe — taking us on a journey from before the first molecule was crafted until the precise moment where everything has truly come to be.
LUMALALÍ GARAWÓN
In a community where women are forbidden to play the drum, Isiatinu, guided by the calls of her ancestral spirits, flees to the heart of nature and, through a journey of resistance and self - discovery marked by the echo of her own rhythms, fights to master the instrument and transform the destiny that her people have imposed on her.
Unrequited Love
An experimental poetic short exploring queerness, vulnerability and society’s ideas around the romanticism of love. This project centers societies’ forced delusions around romance and sexuality.
HAIRDOO
The night before school photos, a spirited young girl, desperately attempts to recreate the perfect hairstyle. With the guidance of an otherworldly hairstylist, she embarks on a magical journey of self-acceptance.
Blood Moon
Across a single night, a ghost and a vampire drift through a haunting, music-driven meditation on belonging, finding love, tragedy and resurrection in a living–dying–living world.
