Board Governance

How QWOCMAP is governed, what we ask of our Board, and how to join us in stewarding the next 25 years.

What the Board Does

How We Steward QWOCMAP

Our Board of Directors provides strategic guidance, governance, and accountability, stewarding QWOCMAP's mission, values, and resources. The Board's work falls across four areas.

Governance

  • Govern the organization as a group, meeting our duty of care, obedience, and loyalty
  • Identify, recruit, onboard, and develop the leadership of other Board members
  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in all Board meetings, the annual Board & Staff retreat, and other Board activities and committees
  • Conduct an annual Board evaluation to ensure Directors are meeting their charter and goals
  • Board terms are one year, with renewal after evaluation

Resource Mobilization & Finances

  • Ensure the organization has the resources to pursue and achieve its mission
  • Lead by example through personal giving, treating QWOCMAP as a priority in giving and in securing additional resources (give/get)
  • Lead Board fundraising efforts including peer-to-peer giving, donor stewardship, and supporting QWOCMAP's broader fundraising
  • Participate in fundraising strategy and oversight, meet the Board charter as a percentage of the annual budget, create and maintain reserves, and support organizational growth and sustainability
  • Review and approve budgets and financial statements to ensure effective stewardship of resources
  • Ensure QWOCMAP meets its legal, fiscal, and compliance responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

  • Collaborate to develop strategy and capacity that secure QWOCMAP's future in alignment with our principles and values
  • Ensure resources and management are in place to meet organizational needs
  • Support QWOCMAP in implementing and measuring strategies and goals

Relationships & Reputation

  • Support relationship-building and stewardship across QWOCMAP's networks
  • Serve as ambassadors for the organization
  • Strengthen QWOCMAP's reputation and reach around the world
  • Actively participate in the Film Festival, Distribution screenings, and other QWOCMAP and community events
